Patients present to our clinic with a range of initial complaints, one of which is experiencing Migrianes. Migraines can present with Aura or without Aura.
Migraine with aura (also called classic migraine) is a recurring headache that strikes after or at the same time as sensory disturbances called Aura. The Aura disturbances may include symptoms including
- Sensitivity to light and flashes of light
- Visual blind spots and other disturbances of vision
- Symptoms throughout the body including tingling in your face or limbs
Treatments for migraine with Aura and migraine without Aura are usually similar and initially involve ruling out other more serious conditions. Our Chiropractors are trained and experienced in working with patients who experience Migraines with Aura and Migraines without Aura. The treatment methods we use are gentle and accommodating to the severe symptoms that often accompany Migraine with Aura.
Symptoms
Migraine Aura symptoms may include visual disturbances that commonly strike before the Headache migraine symptoms — such as intense head pain and sensitivity, sensitivity to light and sound and often nausea. These Aura symptoms are usually temporary and completely resolve.
Migraine Aura may occur with little symptoms of headache. Migraine aura usually occurs about an hour before head pain begins and often resolves within an hour of the Aura starting.
Most people who have migraine with aura develop temporary visual signs and symptoms. which might include
- Blind spots in the visual field
- Squiggly lines that float across your field of vision
- Changes in the quality or clarity of vision or complete vision loss
- Seeing stars, flashing lights etc.
Other Aura disturbances
Other temporary disturbances sometimes associated with migraine Aura include:
Numbness, often felt as tingling in one hand or on one side of your face that may spread slowly along a limb. Speech or language difficulty or noticed muscle weakness
